 The KORGAN Industry Competition is the annual national award for the best names in the area of occupational health and safety in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

DESCRIPTION OF CATEGORIES AND EVALUATION CRITERIA

1. Category: Expert of the Year – Public Official

The Expert of the Year is a person with an impeccable reputation of a civil servant, and a professional practitioner deeply involved in implementation of Kazakhstan government programmes on occupational health and safety, who helps develop the labour norms based on the world experience, assists in business development (including SME) and addressing employment issues, who implements a set of legal, organisational and practical measures aimed to prevent and ensure effective protection of people, undertakes to improve the legal environment in the area of emergency prevention. Candidates for this category may be proposed both by organisations’ teams and on their own.

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • CV with the full name, year of birth, education, and work experience.
  • Photo (10 х 15 cm).
  • Description of the most successful projects implemented or developed by the candidate within last year.
  • Information of personal achievements (certificates of merit, awards, etc.).
  • References from partners, professional associations, etc. (if available).
  • Contact information.

Candidate Evaluation Criteria:

Evaluation of the candidate’s professional and personal qualities which helped make significant political and economic decisions in the area of emergency situations, occupational health and industrial safety.

 

2. Category: Company of the Year

 

The Company of the Year is a company that practically proved its commitment to high standards of occupational health and safety, secured the zero or minimum rate of on-site incidents or made it possible to provide zero rates of industrial accidents. Companies with efficient safety and environmental safety management system, which made it possible to reduce the industrial accident rates to zero.

 

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • Company name.
  • Contact information.
  • Description of the most successful projects implemented or developed by the company within last year, as well as technologies and methods used in the course of the company’s operations.
  • Tools used to ensure industrial safety.
  • Evaluation of results.
  • References and comments.
  • Certificates of merit, awards. etc.

Company Evaluation Criteria: Presence in the market for at least five (5) years. Use of the latest technologies or programmes on occupational health and safety that helped secure the best results in the area of occupational health and safety.

3. Category: Specialist of the Year

 

The Specialist of the Year is an occupational health and safety specialist who – apart from having practical work experience – is also experienced in introducing new advanced technologies in the area of occupational health and safety, in a commercial or government organisation (institution, agency or company) in all areas. Candidates for this category may be proposed both by organisations’ teams and on their own.

 

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • CV with the full name, year of birth, education and work experience.
  • Photo (10 х 15 cm).
    • Description of the most successful projects implemented or developed by the candidate within last year, technologies and methods he/she used in all areas within the Republic of Kazakhstan.
    • Information on personal achievements (certificates of merit, awards. etc.).
    • References from clients, current employers, professional associations (if available).
    • Contact information.

Candidate Evaluation Criteria:

Evaluation of versatile professional methods/technologies used by the specialist, a creative approach to work, technical implementation, performance and personal qualities, qualifications. Personal achievements of the candidate.

 

4. Category: Project of the Year

The Project of the Year is a project on occupational health and safety, with goals and objectives aimed to improve quality and efficiency in an extractive industry, with national/regional significance. The project must be in its implementation stage.

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • Project title.
  • Project time, term and geography/area.
  • Persons responsible for the project.
  • Information on project contractors and the customer (organisation or person).
  • Project budget (at project contractor’s discretion).
  • Description of project concepts, goals and objectives.
  • Project implementation methods.
  • Evaluation of project results.
  • References and comments of the project customer, colleagues, clients, etc.

Project Evaluation Criteria: Efficiency and scale of the project. The project must have national/regional significance. The economic effect of the project – increase in efficiency and profitability. Innovative technologies used in project implementation.

5. Category: Best Training Programme

The Best Training Programme is a programme completed or implemented in the area of occupational health and safety, with specific positive results aimed to improve safe performance of operations using innovative technologies and products/services by local producers. The programme must be completed either fully or at least 70%.

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • Programme title.
  • Programme time, term and geography/area.
  • Persons responsible for the programme.
  • Information on programme contractors and the customer (organisation or person).
  • Programme budget (at programme contractor’s discretion).
  • Description of programme concepts, goals and objectives.
  • Programme implementation methods.
  • Evaluation of programme results.
  • References and comments of the programme customer, colleagues, clients, etc.

Programme Evaluation Criteria: Scale of the programme. The programme must have national/regional significance. Social effect of the programme – quantity and names of educational institutions using this programme in practice. Innovations (if any) used in establishing this programme.

6. Category: Best PPE Supplier

The Best PPE Supplier is a company supplying personal and group protective equipment to Kazakhstan for occupational health and industrial safety.

 

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • Company name.
  • Contact information.
  • Description of the most successful projects implemented or developed by the candidate within last year, technologies and methods used in all areas within the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Tools used to ensure industrial safety.
  • Evaluation of results.
  • References and comments.
  • Certificates of merit, awards. etc.

Company Evaluation Criteria: Presence in the market for at least three (3) years. Any achievements of the supplying company for this year. Compliance of the goods supplied with the best world practices and international standards, as well as providing of certificates of conformance (GOST, EN and other standards of quality).

 

7. Category: Best PPE Manufacturer

The Best PPE Manufacturer is a company that manufactures personal and group protective equipment in Kazakhstan for occupational health and industrial safety, in compliance with the best world practices and international standards.

Materials for participation in the competition should include the following information:

  • Company name.
  • Contact information.
  • Description of the most successful projects implemented or developed by the candidate last year, technologies and methods used in all areas within the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Tools used to ensure industrial safety.
  • Evaluation of results.
  • References and comments.
  • Certificates of merit, awards. etc.

Manufacturer Evaluation Criteria: Presence in the market for at least one (1) year. Production achievements in the current year; innovation in production and its practical use; providing of certificates of conformance (GOST, EN and other standards of quality).
